The Ultimate Thing from the Ultimate Fantastic Four was my first try at any kind of cosplay. If your gonna do something, do it big.
I made the head, arms and legs out of actual rock. It weighed 110lbs altogether. I only wore it for about an hour total but I was sore for a good week after word. It won "Best Comic Costume" and "Workmanship" at CN Anime 05. For more info on this costume visit
Ultimate Thing Costume
Strike Gundam from Gundam Seed. I wanted to make a mech costume and strike was a relatively simple design. Built out of cardboard and
covered in poster it was hot and uncomfortable to wear but I had a fun time all the same. It won "Best Journeyman" at CN Anime 06. For more info on this costume visit
Gundam Suit
The Black Mage from FF1/8-bit theater was a fun little sprite costume I built for MTAC 06 to do an 8-bit group and then I used it to enter my first masqerade at Anime North. It won "Most Accurate Costume" at Anime North 07.
Gavin/Captain Capacitor/Crimson Bynome from reboot. This costume was just one part of a HUGE reboot group. He's basically a big puppet I operate from behind. The co-creator of reboot was there he loved our group and used Bynome as a display at his table when I wasn't using it. We won "Best In Show" at Fan Expo 07.
Squirtle from Pokemon. Everbody loves Squirtle, that's a fact. He's half plushie spandex, half spandex and vinyl over cardboard. I had to go around on my knees to get the right purportions. The best part of the masquerade was when I put on the Squirtle Squad sunglasses and the crowd went nuts. It won "Best Cardboard Construction" and "Best Master Presentation" Anime North 08.
Krunch from Looking For Group. Take two of the best insulators on earth (cardboard and fur), put them together and wear a suit of them in the middle of summer. I learned the true meaning of heat. I spent a good bit of the con hanging around with the creators of Looking For Group, they're damn cool guys. It won "Best World of Warcraft Costume" and "Best Master Workmanship" at Fan Expo 08.
Henchmen 21 from The Venture Brothers. Heavy guy in a butterfly suit, wicked. I was in a small but awesome VB group (I also built a h.e.l.p.er.). We won "Best Armor and Props" at Anime North 09.
Atomic Robo the hero of my favorite comic book of the same name. The upper body was built mainly form cardboard and hotglue. The lower body is all authentic military gear, roughly 200 hours work from start to finish over the course of a year. At a cost of around 450 dollars, mostly paying for the military gear. It was worn at World Con 09 and won "Excellence in Armour" and the "Angry Robot Award"
Steampunk Beast of the X-Gentlemen. This costume is an original design of a steam punk version of Beast from the X-Men. The face is a prosthetic mask from the mustache and up. Made of poster board and hotglue with pulled wool hair. The rest of my face is painted. The rest of the costume is either found items or value village purchases. It was worn at Fan Expo 09 and we won "Best in Show"
